Perhaps partly because the descendants of Vikings and Celts in the U.S. are descended from willing participants here. And, of course, neither Viking nor Celtic are racial slurs, at least not in the U.S., while calling a team the Redskins is pretty much like calling one the Darkies.
Hubby’s grandfather was also a Cherokee, and found the term “native American” insulting, since everybody born here is a “native” American. He much preferred the term First Nations, but the PC folks never asked the people involved.
However, I find the shirt “Bury my brain at Wounded Knee” pretty darned funny, considering the Pennys don’t have much in the way of brains in the first place.

My grandfather was full blood Cherokee. The Redskins are my favorite team. Political Correctness run amok.

We used to have a Custard’s Last Stand here in Buffalo. I didn’t think it was a chain because that’s the only location I ever knew of.
