Guns kill 32,000 annually. Drunk drivers about 13,000. BOTH are unacceptable statistics.

Suicides and accidents don’t count? Oh, good. Those people will be so glad they’re not dead after all.

Why is the Right-Wing response to all of these incidents: “No, you’re not taking away my guns”.There’s never a rational constructive idea what we should be doing to prevent future incidents. However, Louis Gomert (R-Texas) wins the prize for the absolute best response:Obama is Importing Terrorists To Justify Gun Control Laws.http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/louie-gohmert-obama-importing-terrorists-justify-gun-control-laws#sthash.aNwzyIEX.dpuf

Your comment is OT, and wrong (USMCmum has it right). But I heartily endorse your idea on DUI. At a minimum, it’s reckless endangerment.

Doesn’t France have a very strict gun law?

Our society determines our behavior not laws passed by “representatives” pursing an ideology or morality that is important to their sponsors. When I lived in a rural area, I used a gun for hunting, as did most of my neighbors. When I moved to the city, I no longer had a need, as did most of my neighbors. Now, living in a suburb, I’m seeing more of my neighbors buying guns. but I don’t feel societal pressure to have one.

And it’s prosecuted as manslaughter, a vast improvement over the years. I would like to see gun owners submit to the same restrictions drivers do. Application for a license, liability insurance, mandatory extensive training and renewal on a regular basis.

Motor vehicles are intended to tranport people or goods from point a to point be, and when used irresponsibly, can, and do become weapons that kill. Guns are designed to kill.

Simply put, both should be licensed and registered to at least make a viable effort to control the carnage. Cars have been made much safer over the years, tatalities as a percentage of accidents have declined dramatically, there are just a lot more cars on the road. There are more guns out there, but the number of owners hasn’t increased dramatically, those that have them have mostly just built, and filled, bigger “garages”.

If a car is stolen, the owner can report it, and usually does, and the bad guy who stole it can be caught more easily, because it’s registered and even it’s parts are identifiable if they break the car down to sell it for parts. Hmm, same could apply to guns.

I like the proposal to model any New Gun Laws on the TeaOP’s favorite Abortion Restrictions:.http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/stacey-newman-missouri-gun-abortion-restrictions

tomThere were civilians with hidden carry permits at at least three mass shootings (unknown others because they haven’t identified. Two said they could not act for fear of being thought one of the shooters; the third was shot and killed without having a chance to draw. Total number of mass shootings stopped by an armed civilian (or group thereof), zero.
