The graffiti reads: A lot of good arguments are spoilt by some fool who knows what he is talking about.

No, the fool is the one who doesn’t realize that nobody likes a know-it-all. Sometimes we just like a good argument; the rights and wrongs of the matter are irrelevant. What does the proverb say about getting involved in an argument that’s not yours?

Regarding fools: remember Clarke’s First Law: ”When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is probably wrong.”

G’day Jason, Dry, Joe, Ottod, Barb, Bjorn and all Meggsie’s mates.

Ginger should get an A so he can convince his grandkids one day that all things are possible.

Used to be that a bank loan was what you got if you could prove you didn’t need it. Now it is an essential part of life.

    As Ogden Nash put it:

There, there, little luxury, Don’t you cry, You’ll be a necessity, Buy and buy. (Only he used ‘by’).

Frank Corona: If you happen along there is a message re Meggsie and Australian comics for you in yesterday’s comments.

We’re already ramping up to off-year elections in the U. S., but I don’t know anyone in my neck of the woods that’s liable to ruin any good political arguments. Especially me.

    @dukedoug,

“The Swamp” is great. I hope it runs somewhere besides online. “Snake” was cute, but it seems to be more sampler than ongoing strips.

    Dry,

I saw it after the switchover. (Two nights in a row for me is a record)

Thank you! You’ve been a lovely audience! We’ll be here all week (and for the foreseeable future).

THANKS to: usfellers, Dry, ottod, “Joe”Doty, dukedoug, for all the info about “foriegn” (ha,ha) comic strips. It’s fascinating!

I’ve made a copy of all names and sites and I know I’ll have a ball checking them all out.

P.S. Even though I was too young to enjoy them, I remember seeing some very early strips like “The Toonerville Trolly” and “Little Nemo” and seeing “Felix the Cat” and ” Betty Boop” at the movies. Any one remember those?

frank, Toonopedia is a great site. I try to stay away though, because I’m one of those people that takes a half hour to look up a word in the Dictionary (because there are so many interesting words on either side), so toonopedia would pretty much blow my whole weekend. GoComics is bad enough.

Have early Felix The Cat where ‘the operator changed reels’ at the end of each strip. Betty Boop cartoons are on YouTube.

The Daily Ink from Reed Berman publications has some old now defunct comic strips, about 20 altogether I think. I subscrbe to the old Beetle Bailey, Bringing up Father, Little Iodine, and Office Hours. They also have Brick Bradford, Bizz Sawyer, Barney Google and Snuffy Smith, Krazy Kat, the Phantom, etc

Thanks Dry, she’s a lovely, aristocratic French lady and we have been happy together for a little over 52 years. She has just had her 101st birthday although we suspect it was her 103rd.
