Anyone pleading guilty to a felony loses his right to a gun, and while on probation can be inspected randomly in his home or car for guns, bullets, or other paraphernalia. Pretty much what we do for drugs.
Northern RedmanAlso ban private prisons which require these offenses to keep making a profit. That shouldn’t require deleting the “punishment for crime” part of the 13th Amendment. After all, the Peoples Party platform of 1892 had a plank regarding “convict labor”, correctly identifying it as a scheme to depress wages of honest citizens.
So, no accurate details yet, but an ongoing shooting situation with mass casualties in San Bernardino, CA., This one seems really irrational at a facility for folks with developmental disabilities. Hmm, but don’t all these shootings actually involve folks with “developmental disabilities” as the shooter?
San Bernardino mass shooting today. This is getting ridiculous. How much longer can those mainly Republican cowards in Congress continue to ignore this self-inflicted genocide and take bold action to limit access to guns. No other civilized or even uncivilized nation in the world tolerates this kind of mass shootings of innocent people.
And I just read an article in the LA times that says the police don’t know if it’s a terrorist act? WTF is there definition of a terrorist? To me that implies that in order to qualify as a terrorist you must have dark skin and not believe in an “American” religion.
“Explain to me what gun laws you would have passed that would have stopped this person.”You are no doubt aware that the NRA has worked to restore gun ownership rights for felons? There’s a law right there. They have also worked to limit record keeping, so that all too often determining the source of a gun used in a crime is impossible. That’s two.A fair number of guns used by criminals are bought in private party transactions, where there is no background check, no record of the sale. That’s that ‘Universal Background Check’ thing we liberals keep harping on. Number three.Of course, this ignores the fact that most of the people killed by guns are victims of domestic disputes, not mass shooters, not gang hits.
“Maybe keeping violent people off the streets and crazy people in mental hospitals might be a better solution.”It used to be that way. Around the beginning of the 1990’s, in many states, Massachusetts included, governors and legislatures decided that they wanted to use tax money for other, “more productive” purposes, like state contracts to political contributors, and such. The institutions which did house, and try to treat mentally ill patients who were unable to manage their lives, and even many who were severely physically challenged, were closed down. These people were sent to half-way houses, and eventually released, because the pols declared that they would be better off that way! Money rules!
sofartotheleftimrightIt depends on the gun. Assault rifles and concealables, definitely; three shot shotguns and rifles, we could have a purpose of meat on the table. Interesting that the corporate media follows the NRA party line explicitly, but attacks Saunders as weak on guns because he makes that distinction.

Gun update. So far the guns have not moved toward the ammunition but the pistol may have turned its back to me. It might be making have plans.

So, how’s that working out? Maybe keeping violent people off the streets and crazy people in mental hospitals might be a better solution.
So everyone should be in a mental institution? Definte your term “violent” because technically anyone can be “violent” and without a precursor.

^One observation a guy made, but probably not the case, was that they may have had the wrong building, it’s happened before.

Clay Jones drew Carly Fiorina as specifically acting as an accessory to murder. So reasonable and moderate, Mr. Jones.
