I’ve been considering what that crackpot caller suggested for a long time (maybe 180 pounds max). With smaller players you can loosen up all of the protective rules and let them play.
You could always have weight-based leagues. Or you could improve helmet safety. First, a layer of boxing headgear. Then the football helmet on top of that. Then a medieval knight’s helm on top of that. Then you surround the whole thing with a force field……..
