@PilpaltriDo you ever wonder why people “TAKE” offence? Usually it is because they are weak in their convictions, or they are defending something they know is a lie, but it’s convenient to their intent. Your own example are weak; the swastika has been used since the Greek ancient culture or perhaps even earlier. Taking offence for a geometric designs or words it’s just plain dumb.
OH, I finally got it. I was wondering why a “whiney college student” was depicted as supporting never being offended. That’s NOT it….that whiney college student is creating, and demanding enforcement of, the right to never have anybody say or do anything it finds offensive. Shudder. It seems the most popular major in places of higher learning these days is the “Entitlement” course.
True; there’s no one like a right winger for being offended by anything they disagree with. There’s a whole cottage industry of Faux outrage on the right.
@Night-Gaunt49I didn’t say that people were weak and that they were attacted because of it. I said their conviction are, furthermore I would say those convictions are weak because of the lack of education, even on the things they get offended by. Yes I do think that people have emotions and feelings, the sad part is that it’s their emotions and feelings which are clouding their reasoning; reasonable people don’t let their emotions and feelings determine what their actions will be. Is it my idea, or are you trying to be “the devil’s advocate” and defend someone from offence, when there was none?
@Charlie555Are you trying to offend my intelligence (pun intended) being offended is not a test of virtue, is what you do after the insult, as a reaction, the true test. By the way, you are free to react any way you want, it’s your right.
Well, if I reply “Nothing you have said offends me”, I could mean, “You’re a pleasant polite person whose comments are always reasonable and considerate” or I could mean “I have never cared about your opinion.”I find this kind of ambiguity very interesting. I told my doctor that I considered myself a moderate drinker, and she asked me how much I drink and I said perhaps one beer a week, and she said, “That’s more than moderate.” She meant that I don’t even count as a moderate drinker. Another time, the editor of a book I was contributing to explained to me that each of the nine contributors would get one tenth of the profits (not that there were any) and because he was editing and contributing, he would get two tenths. I told him I thought that was more than reasonable, and at first he thought I meant that his share was unreasonably large, when I meant it wasn’t just reasonable, it was more than reasonable.

But I didn’t want to reply simply “Nothing you have said offends me” because I didn’t want to say anything that could be interpreted as offensive.
