    Since there is absolutely nothing that you can do with a philosophy degree other than teach philosophy, why did anyone who majored in philosophy think that he would get a job related to that degree?

    Well, you had me until you mentioned Carly Fiorina. Does a philosophy degree enable you to passionately and habitually lie your head off? If so, it does seem to be a valuable skill if you want the Republican nomination.

    My Dad majored in philosophy (philosophy of science, in particular) and ended up in a high level government position, working on arms control. Me, I majored in philology, and I ended up with a tenured position at a pretty good university.
