More jobs that require degrees are moving overseas. You compete with people across the world for those jobs now and companies are increasingly leaning elsewhere, especially when they can pay someone less than you for the same talent.
I had a different take on it. Focusing on the fact that it’s a high-school grad, I thought the implication was that one needs a college degree to work in the white collar knowledge-based economy, that you will be left behind with just a high school diploma.
