The wrong kinds of people should be discouraged from voting. Increased civic involvement can only be a threat to our sacred way of ’Murrican life.

They made a lot of promises – “We’ll come to you!” But I’d like to see how many actually get kept.

I just voted in the Federal election in Canada. Voters have to identify themselves, which in my opinion is reasonable, but there is no official ID. Instead the government sends out a card which lists about 50 (that’s fifty) different acceptable forms of ID. That includes library cards, utility bills, and the labels on prescription bottles. I don’t have a driver’s license, so used my passport and a bank statement. If you show up and you don’t have ID, then if another voter who does have ID knows you (say, your wife), that person can swear that you are who you say you are and you can vote.

Lonecat what percentage of the Canadian populous is illegal aliens, (oops undocumented migrants)? We have a real problem on this side of the border. Makes me wonder how many people in America cant cash checks or do all the other miriad things that require a photo ID.

What is wrong with having to prove that you are actually a citizen to vote? I don’t mind it. I appreciate people trying to ensure clean elections go to either party, even if it is an inconvenience.

There is essentially zero voter fraud in the US. Tightening ID requirements is a solution to a non-problem. “Voter fraud” is an excuse to do things that discourage voting.
