Uncontrolled borrowing by the Govt is a big problem, but Climate change IS the biggest threat by far the US (and all humanity) has ever faced. It’s tragic that so few (outside the scientific community ) are prepared to acknowledge it , let alone take concrete steps to combat it.

Thanks for pointing that out, shakes. (BTW, your handle makes me visualize things I’d rather not at breakfast.)

Of course if climate change becomes as bad as predicted (and so far it is ahead of predictions) the debt will be irrelevant in the face of the other economic problems.

Debt can be taken care of at any given moment – climate can´t.

Have you ever noticed that when the Democrats do something good (like look like adults during their debate instead of a pack of unruly brats as in the GOP debates) or when the Republicans do something stupid (like be unable to elect a Speaker of the House) the first thing Republican cartoonist and pundits do is start screaming about the National Debt?

I’m hoping the under 30 voters will realize the importance of critical issues as they have inherited an awful set of neglected issues by the Gen-X, Boomer, and older generations.

“If not, the “debt” will become even more irrelevant.”.Debt, prosperity and fiscal soundness are crucial to the environment. A population that is financially thriving has both a better grasp of climate issues and is in a better financial position to adopt habits/technologies that are beneficial to the environment. .Personal example: On my wish list is solar panels which is super nice for the environment but presently can’t afford it..Along with electric vehicles (which I would like).

Obviously, what we need is tax cuts — not just any tax cuts, we need income tax cuts, especially for the wealthy ‘job creators’ and also those wealthy people some refer to as corporations.

    Tried and true, right?

The biggest part of that debt is because of contracting with the MIC, not “welfare” or social programs. The biggest part of that debt is also owned by AMERICANS, individuals and financial corporations.(Many of which are also in that same MIC.)

Climate change IS the biggest threat, as ongoing, or the eventual “Johnny come lately” actions, will greatly increase that debt, while reducing food production and other factors of survivability.

The “Deniers” who claim that Climate Change isn’t going to be part of the “National Debt” are going to be very Rudely awakened when they get the Bill for building a Seawall/Dome all the way around & over their Formerly “Ocean Front” Home that has suddenly become an “Under Sea” Home. .On the Bright Side, they will be able to scoop lots of Lobster out of their new “Underwater Lawn”….
