Anyone on that stage is more qualified to be president than any of the Republican front runners.
But, of course, Fox “news” viewers believe everything Trump and Carson say, because Trump is well known to be honest and forthright in all his dealings.
And Carson showed his bravery in the Popeye Chicken incident where he picked out a better victim for the gunman. Fox “news” viewers believe this even though supposedly Carson was a vegan at the time, and there are no police records of the incident.
And he is a ‘brilliant’ doctor and brain surgeon — what is he doing in a fried chicken fast food place?
Yeah, like Martin O’Malley not understanding the roles the different parts of the government play. He was whining that the NRA and Congress somehow were responsible for the very correct judicial ruling that an ammo retailer was not responsible for the actions of Holmes in the Aurora theater shooting even though they failed to ask what Holmes was going to do with the ammo..The first glaring issue is that neither the NRA nor Congress has any say on court cases. Someone running for president should know the different branches of government and what they are responsible for. .The second glaring issue is championing a case that would literally swamp the court system with frivolous lawsuits trying to drain money from innocent people. There is no law requiring an ammo merchant to request what the ammo is for, nor could one reasonably expect someone like Holmes to say he was planning on shooting up a movie theater. If the lawsuit had gone through, every merchant would suddenly become liable for any crime committed or injury sustained with merchandise they sold if they didn’t ask the buyer what they intended to do with the merchandise. Even a brain dead liberal should understand the implications of that lawsuit, yet here we have the supposed best of the best the Democrats have and not one of them said “wait a minute…”
Hiram^, my observation as well, how can the country benefit if we elect the adults instead of the spoiled brats. They actually discussed real issues, and even proposed solutions to those problematic issues. My, how are the voters supposed to decide what’s best for the country? They actually want to end wars and not start more, how silly.
Thanks for the interesting link. Somehow it reminded me of Schumacher, who advocated appropriate technology rather than the big foreign aid projects that benefit mostly the big companies like Bechtel and Halliburton.
From the wiki article on Appropriate Technology:Appropriate technology is an ideological movement (and its manifestations) originally articulated as intermediate technology by the economist Dr. Ernst Friedrich “Fritz” Schumacher in his influential work, Small is Beautiful. Though the nuances of appropriate technology vary between fields and applications, it is generally recognized as encompassing technological choice and application that is small-scale, decentralized, labor-intensive, energy-efficient, environmentally sound, and locally controlled. Both Schumacher and many modern-day proponents of appropriate technology also emphasize the technology as people-centered.Appropriate technology has been used to address issues in a wide range of fields. Well-known examples of appropriate technology applications include: bike- and hand-powered water pumps (and other self-powered equipment), the universal nut sheller, self-contained solar lamps and streetlights, and passive solar building designs. Today appropriate technology is often developed using open source principles, which have led to open-source appropriate technology (OSAT) and thus many of the plans of the technology can be freely found on the Internet. OSAT has been proposed as a new model of enabling innovation for sustainable development.Appropriate technology is most commonly discussed in its relationship to economic development and as an alternative to transfers of capital-intensive technology from industrialized nations to developing countries. However, appropriate technology movements can be found in both developing and developed countries. In developed countries, the appropriate technology movement grew out of the energy crisis of the 1970s and focuses mainly on environmental and sustainability issues.
I think Schumacher has faded from attention, but there was a time when he was influential. My sister worked for an appropriate technology think tank for a while (The Institute for Local Self Reliance, I think it was called). Those of us who are decentralizing socialists found his work very interesting. I certainly agree that you need government or equivalent institutions, but I’m also in favor of putting as much initiative as possible into individual hands.
Smart people are boring….Yeah, it takes true erudition to come up with….we need free education, and free healthcare for the “needy”, and more days off for women workers, and equal pay, and more, more, more, etc. Expanded socialism is not smart, it’s state-sanctioned theft. The multi-trillion dollar debt (and inevitable collapse of the dollar) is not the result of smart people, but of children (R’s and D’s).
America has never wanted, cared for, or even appreciated smart people (“egghead” is only the most convenient insult). As a result, our educational system is a joke; as a country we prefer religion to science; and we are who knows how many trillion dollars in debt, even as we are “led” by congresspeople, of whom I doubt one in a hundred could tell a trillion from a billion (or from a million) if their gun lobby money depended on it.Read Richard Hofstadter’s Anti-Intellectualism in American Life, Susan Jacoby’s The Age of American Unreason, Neil Postman’s Amusing Ourselves to Death, or Charles Pierce’s Idiot America: How Stupidity Became a Virtue in the Land of the Free for history and documentation.

I thought this debate was far and away more interesting than the Republican debates, precisely because there some smart people on the stage.

Lifetime earnings of a person with a college degree will pay back in taxes many times the amount provided for that education.

In today’s education system, if you somehow acquire more intelligence than a two year old Chimp, you’re considered an egg head!
