All politics have an agenda, therefore this is applicable to both sides of the aisle. They do it with religion too.

As I remember it, this all started during the early 1970’s, when the Repubs began courting the Bible Belt and southern votes. They appealed to religious beliefs and pledged to uphold them, against all who questioned them. Today, they are captive to continue this nonsense, and many billionaires are fanning the flames of intolerance and ignorance with their dollars.

Mostly the right, a little from the left, and basically accurate. The problem is that we have an 18th-century political system trying to solve 21st-century scientific, ethical, and social problems with politics, which mostly involves maintaining one’s own power, which is why they pander to the ignorati. As the Evil Elf said above, “If the masses weren’t idiots then this would never occur.” Until the political system is overhauled, it’s not going to get better. But, it’s never going to be overhauled, as the plutocracy and their whores, congress, will never allow it to be.
