A teacher has the ABCs written on the chalkboard, but it's for an active shooter drill. "A" is for "Always close the door." "B" is for "Be sure to switch off classroom lights." "C" is for "Crouch under desk."
I fear some loony-tine hell-bent on killing will find those kids crouched under the desk and shoot them all. Arming teachers will only give credence to more guns cure the problem. I just avoid crowds.
We don’t want to do anything about it, so we better get used to this sort of thing. Remember, this was a campus where students were allowed to conceal-carry – and where some who were interviewed said they were carrying.
Home schooling is not a good answer — despite well-publicized school shootings, statistically your kids are safer at school than at home. ESPECIALLY if your home has guns in it.
The real solution should give all those concerned about Constitutional rights the creeps; as “metadata” can be retrieved, so can “social sites” be monitored for the nut fringe of these mass shooters who are almost always out there with their diatribes, and they can be traced. But, while the Constitution does NOT guarantee privacy, just protects private information without a warrant, there IS a way to profile these nuts in advance, but there are a LOT of them out there.
Israel has no problem doing this kind of monitoring for safety, but our Constitution, providing rights to both “right” and “left” folks politically, would take a beating.
It is not btw “gun free zones”, as one guy at Umpqua did indeed have a consealed weapon (yes against the rules) but he was allowed to leave with his weapon, and the real issue is “targets of opportunity” where large masses of people are in confined spaces. It occurs even when folks inside are heavily armed, just check out our drone strikes in Syria, Afghanistan, Yemen, or Iraq.

I remember the “Duck & Cover” drills for nuclear attack. Same solution to a new problem.

Jeb! on the school shooting in Oregon. “Stuff happens.” Now there is leadership we can get behind.

gun free zones are to killers what buffets are to fat people
