They estimate half the accidents could be eliminated by driverless cars. Most are caused by human error. In my area a third of crashes are rear enders because if the impatient morons who tailgate aggressively for no good reason. It seems to be getting much worse and when you couple that with distractions like cell phones, texting and in car entertainment, it will only get worse.
If find it interesting that we see so many cell towers so close highways, yet we’re told not to use our devices while we’re driving. We get the government we deserve.
If everyone went driverless it might work. Mixed modes, I’m sceptical. Driverless works on rules and programming. Many drivers, on the other hand, are idiots and make up their own rules.
^Hmmm — Driverless vehicles, which might be a step towards autonomous mobile weapon systems. The concept is seen in Keith Laumer’s Bolo series. The first story mentioning them comes from a work he wrote in 1960, and many stories followed. Laumer’s creations are heroic defenders of humanity. What we get in real life will depend on who does the programming, and the moral standards thereof.
