Why hasn’t the government just hired like a million unemployed people to be out there cleaning this up, then just bill BP? Have people all along the coast, constantly cleaning as the oil reaches shore? Why didn’t they take up offers of help from the Dutch and others? If we can charge BP for all the clean up, then we should be sparing no expense, accepting any offer of help, using every resource available.
But hear it is, 2 months in and there’s still pleas from the states involved, asking for more resources, asking for permission to do things like sand berms, but our monolithic government bureaucracy, moving at the speed of a snail, seems to think we can take months to examine every detail before making any decisions.
