The Iraqi army would have had the backbone to keep Isis from taking over the majority of the country and learn how to do it themselves. He should also arm the Kurds and Peshmerga directly so they have the tools necessary to decimate Isis not just push them back.

Something like 50 wars currently going on around the world, and we have our fingers in many of them, Syria ain’t hardly the only place with refugee problems.
