Not all cloud storage is replicated multiple times across geodistinct server farms. It’s more often the exception than the norm. There’s an old IT expression that goes: if the data doesn’t exist in at least three places, it doesn’t exist at all.
I back up all important documents, photos, music etc. daily onto a portable hard drive, as well as my network storage drive. From there, my second computer pulls down any updates every night. Allway Sync – best backup program ever for syncing files across multiple drives and devices.
I used to dump all my files to punched cards, but once I forgot to add sequence numbers and then dropped one of the card decks. (Early mainframe days at work)
Funny. I’ve got one hard drive still in my computer that is over 10 years old and still working..All I ever use it for is Backups..All my Current stuff is on the Other Three drives which are Much Newer, including one external drive that I only plug in when I’m using it. It has all my Music files copied from my CDs so that I can then copy it to MicroSD cards for my phone & tablet..
Just a note, I had a relative working on her PhD thesis. She had everything soundly backed up. She was paranoid enough to put a backup in her banks safe deposit box.The other two were on her computer, separate hard drives.Then her house caught on fire.All her electronics went POOF. Except for the hard drive with the back up in the safe deposit box. So was she paranoid…Or smart?

You have two back ups. Once a month, plugged in only once a month, and daily, kept plugged in. Never failed me.

my photos are also on my tablet on a micro card,, computer crashes I still have photos. Anything else isn’t important

I don’t trust the cloud AT ALL. All my important stuff (photos, scanned documents, etc.) are burned to CDs and stored on flash drives or SC cards.
