What a shame, those who are too ignorant to see that naming the mountain after McKinley in the first place was the true denigration of American heritage. Likewise the very construction of Mount Rushmore itself, a testimate to the fascism and racism of America. You want satire? You want real satire? You missed the BIG one Varvel. How about the Obama International (formerly known as REAGAN) Airport. Try that one on for size. We need an airport named after a real leader, a man who represents America. Not some half-assed, washed out actor who catered to the rich and DENIGRATED American heritage.

Shouldn’t the sign say “Mt. Denali, formerly known as Mt. McKinley, formerly known as Mt. Denali”?

Somehow I don’t remember these conservatives having a fit when National Airport was renamed Reagan Airport. Where’s their respect for the Nation? .Conservatives’ entire worldview is seen through a partisan lens. If and when Obama tries to name something after himself, you’ll have a talking point; but that would never happen, because Obama is not the demon that this cartoonist is trying so desperately to make him. .Trump, on the other hand, names EVERYTHING after himself, and that’s not an issue to conservatives, because after all, he’s one of the the boys so that’s understandable.

True enough. But what Republican would miss a chance to denigrate Obama?

Yes. McKinley never went there, It was an Ohio delegation who pushed the name change through Congress around 1917 or so to honor its “favorite son.” Pure politics. People in Alaska generally refer to it’s original name. And that’s all Obama is doing: restoring its original name.

Oh all this fake Tea Bagger gnashing and moaning about Mt. Denali – the Great and Powerful Palin herself referred to it as Mt. Denali.

the problem is not the name change [ the gop delegation has been trying to get this done ] it is that by exec order bho over rides the law [ that is rule by man — which is dictatorship]

It’s just “Denali” btw, not “Mount Denali”. Republicans are just bent because the guy who bent to the William Randolph Hearst press of the day gave us the Spanish American war and a global empire, which we mostly gave back. Which, our refusal to sell Philippine oil to the expanding Japanese empire played a considerable role in why they went to war against the U.S..

That was what the natives called it. To my mind, one can use either name. Everyone will know whereof you speak.
