A mobile is a thing that can be hung above a baby’s crib. It has things on each arm (animals, for example). Some mobiles play music as they go around. These help a baby go to sleep.

Thank you all for explaining it to me. It’s really very clever isn’t it? Without your explanation I would have been left wondering.

And Alexander Calder is credited with coining the term “mobile” for his hanging, moving art (as apposed to “stabile” for the motionless forms).
