Garth: Okay, kids, this is Binkie and Flip-Top's big scene just before the serious craziness begins. Play the tension. Play the anticipation! Boopsie, have you got Binkie's take on the scene? Boopsie: I think so, Garth. She's worried about the wet t-shirt contest. She feels a terrible ambiguity about her motives and fears she's misplaced something precious to her-- her dignity. Garth: Uh... right. Now, Burke, don't wave your shorts until after the sprinkler comes on. Burke: Grunt!

If Doonesbury has been in reruns for a year and a 1/2 now, why didn’t they rerun a 9/11 related strip from the 2000’s for today to honor the 9/11 anniversary today?

1985? Was “Burke” Trudeau’s dig at Berkeley Breathed for copping his style? Looks a lot like Steve Dallas.

The Dallas in Academia, which is a prototype for the SD character in Bloom County, only vaguely portrays SD. When I first read Academia Waltz several years ago, I was surprised that the character was Steve Dallas. He evolved a lot from AW to BC.
There was a lot of things in Bloom County that “paid homage” to Trudeau’s style. Trudeau was unhappy about it at the time. I still think it allowed Breathed to grow as a cartoonist and it was a good thing.
But the shades, cigarette, dark hair (I know, black and white in ‘85) and passing resemblance to BC Dallas make me think of it. The grunt is GT’s commentary.
