Ted Rall for August 20, 2015
Transcript:
Summertime Blues The news media is supposed to work 24-7. But good luck getting their attention in August. (Man: The enhanced audiotape shows I told the truth. Now I have to get the word out!) The LA times fired me as a sop to the LAPD. Collusion, police corruption of the press- it was a huge story... but no one would get back to me. 2 weeks went by, just one newspaper, The New York observer, covered me. They sided with me! So where were others? (Man 2: People are asking why other cartoonists are so quiet) (Man: I shoulda sprung for more beers...) Finally, I freaked out on the editorial cartoonists' listserv. (Man 3: "You all suck"?! We were already working on a statement where's your gratitude?) (Man: Sure you were...)

If you want, Ted, I’ll be perfectly happy to do a piece on my cartoon strip supporting you. But nobody reads my strip anyway…not even you.

It’s a conspiracy, Ted. They know you’re a genius and they’re jealous. Everybody. The whole world. They had a secret meeting in the basement of a deserted WalMart and agreed to fire you and deny that they were working together.

Really…now think of the prestige. Not many writers can say they were fired by the LA TIMES

If cartoonists aren’t supporting you, perhaps you should review your past strips where you’ve eviscerated them for cowardice.

My God, Ted, I’m on your side and I’m tired of your whining!

Ted was definitely screwed in the rear by the LA Times and LAPD without lubricant. Bad precedent for journalists and cartoonists. I say no donuts for the Times or LAPD for a year!

Police collusion and corruption of the press are old news. They don’t call it the ‘boss’ media for nothing. Every story you read in a mainstream newspaper was written and edited by people who are exquisitely mindful of the feelings of the police, and of important bureaucrats, politicians, and business people.
