I guess fifty years just wasn’t enough time for the old policy to be effective? Nothing like continuing to do something stupid instead of trying some other approach. I think the brains of conservatives have become petrified over time and are incapable of doing anything but wanting to go back to the 18th century. I might be OK with that if they would start doing duels again to solve disagreements among themselves.
