Ahh, the system of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether. One of my favorite E.A. Poe short stories.
As an 18th century reenactor, I can say that he thinks it is like tar and feathering. If he actually had boiling hot tar poured on him, and he lived, it would be far worse, then again if it was done and he did not live, it would still be far worse.
