    Lynn’s Notes:

I was often asked to champion women’s rights in the strip; to reinforce feminism. I never felt comfortable with the word "feminist "; it’s a word that to me suggests a negative attitude towards men. Rather, I preferred the word "equalist, " and I thought Elly and her friends were smart and independent and funny enough to show they were indeed equal to the men.

@nabuqu… You have way too much time on your hands. Looked at the length of your comment, read two lines and had enough.

mycoraleeWe have? I didn’t get the memo. Last I looked, women got 21% less for same work as males, blacks 37% less than whites, hispanics 31% less than anglo males, etc. In the 19th century, Annie Oakley was campaigning for equal pay for equal work and we are in the 21st. (She also didn’t believe women should vote, and didn’t ride astride a horse until 1920; progress is never uniform.).NabuquduriuzhurAnd Crosby did it while blind. In WW-II, Elizabeth repaired trucks and just a few years ago, repaired her Land Rover in the more remote part of Balmoral rather than phone for help.

before WWII, there were women working and a few had carreers, but not if they were married to an ablebodied man. In the 30s, it was bad form to have 2 breadwinners in the same household. Even before that, there were many women in small businesses. Of course, women took “men’s” jobs" in WWII. The 50s were a time of forgetting the war and women were expected to be housewives. So, the women’s movement in the 60s was mostly a backlash of the 50s typecasting.Women wanted to compete for the best jobs, but those CEO jobs are few and far between, even for men.

It has been my experience at all auto repair facilities over the past 47 years that the person behind the counter (male or female) defer to a man and try to intimidate a woman. I know a lot more about engines and service than my husband, but if he comes with me to have my car worked on, the service writer ALWAYS talks to him instead of me. We have gotten to the point where I go alone or he waits out in his car to give me a ride home. It gets old real fast.

Not for the first time I wonder…Why do Nabuqu and Comicsfan feel the need to troll here? They obviously don’t like the strip, and comicsfan (if his comments today are any indicator) doesn’t even like women. So why are they here, in a strip featuring a female character? Is it just to annoy those of us who enjoy the strip? Are they really the bedbugs of GoComics? We’ll never know.

Absolutely right about Comicssfan. He’s a Troll and I’ve been Flagging him. Please join me and tell others to do the same. Maybe we can get him banned (I hope).

It’s true there have been many successful women….however many have never received credit for their accomplishments and the remuneration has been abysmal. The current efforts to turn back the clock to just this type of treatment and attitude toward women is reflected in many of the comments on this page. Anonymous misogyny is still misogyny.

comicsssfanThis is a group of man-hating women? It is? I don’t recall the operation and more importantly, neither does my wife.
