I saw a story about a previously all-black U (Howard?) in ESPN a couple weeks back. they have 4000 students and 450 staff. And you folks think the government is bad!
Didn’t have a penny in student loans. Amazing the folks who complain about taxes are the ones who DEMAND everything- FOR THEM be free! Save a little every day in advance, for what you may need in the future. Then it won’t be free, but it will be paid for. It’s the neocons who spend now, don’t pay later. TEA Party indeed.
my nephew went to Princeton due to the generosity of rich folks who set up endowments to save on the taxes they’d have had to pay otherwise. what goes around comes around, and eventually he’ll wind up doing something similar to save on his own tax bill. all of you commenting about Clark Kent’s fallacy are correct. NOTHING is free.
Back in the late 60s, I was able to pay for books and tuition to a state university working only a summer job. Now that the Federal Government is involved, subsidizing education, it takes most people years to pay off student loans. Let’s have more of that big government in every aspect of our lives. Oh, wait. We do.

You have to work double that just so you can retire. Hope you live to see it.

I think he meant free to the student, by an easily understood figure of speech.

They may be “free” but “they” decide who can go and what you can study.
freeholder1 almost 14 years ago
If you think that doesn’t happen here, you never took an SAT, Jules.

If [the government] robs Peter to pay Paul, they’ll get Paul’s vote every time! Late stat: 47% of adult Americans don’ pay federal income tax. Hmmmmm
