The reality never quite lives up to the fantasy.

If McV.’s interpretation is correct, that goes double from the male side. But if that’s not it, then I don’t get the joke at all. Any other theories?

If the “boy cut swim short” were really designed like guys’ swimwear, it would be the suit of Cathy’s dreams–loose-fitting, comfortable, forgiving of her shape. But, of course, it’s not guys’ clothing at all; it’s typical women’s clothing–seemingly designed to emphasize all her imperfections.

Ms. Guisewite, don’t blame the males for what you females keep doing to yourselves.

It’s true. Those boy cut shorts only look good on teenagers and models.

Imagine if women could get comfy suits like the men wear! Nice shorts that wouldn’t ride up and made out of nylon so they’d last for 20 years instead of 10 wearings! Maybe a nice T-shirt-like top to go with, and I’d love it.

Not swimming at the pool or beach is simply not possible for me. I might not be skinny after 3 kids and 40 years, but the rest of the world can deal with me however I look

When I go to a pool, I wear men’s nylon shorts & a tank top. I do have to wear a tube top or something under the men’s tank top, since the armholes are too large. But much more modest & comfortable than anything I can find in the women’s plus department!
