Caulfield: Have you ever...um...hang glided? Hung glid? Hang glider flied? Frazz: And loved it! Caulfield: Why would they make something so memorable so hard to say in the past tense? Frazz: I've also scuba diven!
Scuba dove sounds distressingly right. But Hang… glode? :p Hang glided should be fine, really, or just glided (although there are other gliders and other ways to glide.)
Scuba Dived is actually, it seems, meant to be fine, but dove isn’t nesc wrong….
Sounds familiar to those fortunate enough to listen to Vin Scully. He will apologize for the grammar difficulties in the phrase “…flied out to left field in the second inning.”
I hate heights and am extremely prone to motion sickness, so what’s not to love about hang gliding. Going up in a towed glider was bad enough. Was sick for the rest of the day.

“Have you ever been hang gliding?”
“…been scuba diving?”
Writing for a character who is supposed to be very smart doesn’t turn out well when the writer isn’t.
