Were that it so. But my experience is that the politicians follow their constituents. This is a fairly conservative country. I’m delighted when freedoms are expanded and disheartened when they contract. But that’s just me. I think the aggregate polling data should be trusted, though, which means there are a heck of a lot of conservatives out there.

Very true. The way our country is organized, the most populous areas vote democratic. But the structure of our political system has given fewer voters from less populated areas disproportionate weight. Plus, conservatives are passionate and they tend to vote. I think they sense that the tide of history has been moving against them. This necessitates they obstruct, obfuscate, and work very hard…yet again and again, they keep running into the hard wall of facts and reality. The typical conservative response is not careful deliberation, but panicked hysteria, flinging half truths and emotional nonsense all about the place.

But I think my essential point remains. Compared to Western Europe, fo example, ours is a fairly conservative country when it comes to guns, military spending, the social safety net, religion, and so forth.

Any victory for Antonin is a disaster for America.

The diverse comments suggest that even the phrase “liberty and justice for all” is subject to interpretation.

@FishDog“…it’s overwhelmingly red…” Prarie dogs don’t vote – people do! And it was the Liberals who started, fought, and won the American Revolution!
