Okay, she constantly complains about ANY taxation, and now complains because there isn’t, and hasn’t been for a long time, enough money to cover everything a huge populaton and economy demand— for free!
Federal gas tax last went up to 18.9 cents 21 years ago, and state taxes in most states also haven’t gone up to match needs. Crazy budget manipulation has long been the venue of REPUBLICAN administrations, like Reagan (close the mental hospitals and throw ’em on the streets or jail ’em), and legislators from the conservative districts in Southern California and the Central Valley (JBS Land), so the liberal accusations are pretty much bull coming from the industrial community, manufacturing AND corporate agriculture and those ever gracious land developers (about not paying for roads btw).
The simple fact is gas taxes need to go up, and it is NOT practical to charge per miles driven on every car in new efforts to avoid making the most destructive use of fossil fuels pay their true costs.

The Democrats in California have already raised the income and sales taxes. They will get around to raising the gas tax soon enough.
