This was timely – we have a bald-faced hornet’s nest hanging on a low branch on one of our small trees. Hated to take it out as they aren’t really harmful, but there is an elementary school at the top of our back yard and too many kids cut through the yard. My biggest fear was exactly what happened here, except with a rock or stick and not a petrified muffin _"Hey, watch THIS!!!!" We sprayed it and took care of it Wed. evening before something like this happened. .
That said, the nest is one gorgeous piece of natural architecture.
