It’s just “Southern Pride”, proud of being terrorists and murderers.

Lol at the typical emotional and reactionary liberals on this site.We should then also get rid of the Democrat Party since they were the ones fighting FOR slavery and segregation, right?Oh you say they changed? Yeah so has the South and to try to trash it because of some sicko punk and exploit a tragedy like this just reinforces most Americans disgust of Liberals.

^ Of the two main political parties in the US, one seems to have evolved towards respecting everyone, towards giving everyone a fair chance, towards staying out of war with other nations. The other seems to be devolving towards using military power recklessly, towards concentrating wealth in the hands of a few, towards concentrating political power in the hands of the wealthy, towards disenfranchising large segments of the citizenry; in short, back towards feudalism. Of the two, the choice is easy, whatever happened in the past.

Anyone know the reason why the Civil War was fought? Anyone know the Real reason? Slavery you say, sorry you are wrong. The issue that fueled the fires was mainly States’ Rights and the belief by the southern states that the Federal Government was overstepping the limits and intruding into areas that should be decided by each state.

The Italians have a saying, “you can always find a stick if you want to beat a dog.” That applies to demonizing the Confederate flag, which represents quite a bit more than the single horrid notion of racism.

Focusing on the Confederate flag as an evil racist emblem diverts attention from education and delays educating people to embrace Christian tolerance and acceptance. It unavoidably raises the hackles of those for whom the Confederate flag means many, many things other than racism. In other words, it’s counterproductive.

We see that same rush to judgement in our visceral reaction to the swastika. In our collective, cultural mind, it represents the philosophy and actions of Nazi Germany, but its history shows that it’s much, much more.

The swastika has been used as a decorative element in various cultures since at least the Neolithic Era, about 3,000 years ago, and is found on a man’s tunic depicted in a Roman mosaic at the Villa Romana del Casale in Sicily. It is known most widely as an important symbol long used in Indian religions, denoting “auspiciousness.” It was adopted as such in pre-World War I-Europe and later, and most notably, by the Nazi Party and Nazi Germany prior to World War II.

In many Western countries the swastika has been stigmatized because of its use in Nazism, yet it continues to be commonly used as a religious symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism.

The lesson is that pillorying the Confederate flag is a silly and frustrating waste of time. If you want to pillory something, pillory the backward local, state, and federal politicians whose conservative views and speeches subtly and effectively preserve, foster, and promote racism through coded references to poor people, to lazy people, to ignorant people, etc. The problem lies in evil hearts and minds, not in a piece of cloth.

In the 1960’s Republicans supported civil rights legislation. Any similar bill that came up in the 21st Century would be filibustered into oblivion by the R’s. Or have tax cuts for billionaires attached to it.

Hey! Roof’s not pudgy!.But he is a monster. He is evil. And all those defenders of his gun “rights”, those blaming the victims, those proudly proclaiming their racism and hatred, are cut from the same mold.

Ahh, I hadn’t faced the old South African flag in a long while. In the centre, 3 flags representing “unity”: the Union Jack representing the former British colonies of the Cape & Natal, in vertical the flag of the Orange Free state and then the Transvaal Vierkleur, Afrikaner states annexed by the British. This flag brought together different nations.whilst ignoring 3/4 of the population altogether

I recall it with nostalgia. Every school assembly forced to sing “Die Stem” at the flag raising ceremonies. Brings a tear to my eye. Especially when we refused to salute it or hold it dear, lots of tears then.

The Rhodesian flag I last saw in 1979, probably in Salisbury (now Harare) or was it Bulawayo? Certainly when we crossed Beitbridge on the Limpopo. I have a photo of my brother and me, in the Limpopo mountains, at the foot of Cecil Rhodes’ grave, circa 1974. ‘Twas rainy and overcast. I recall it well. I suppose a Rhodesian flag might have been fluttering nearby.

So, it’s the same with you guys with the Confederate flag? Nostalgic memories? Nice moments? Tugs at the heart?

Now imagine those whose memories of it aren’t quite as nice.

The real irony is that these people consider themselves American patriots. The CSA was a different nation. It was founded because they didn’t not want to be Americans anymore. So aren’t they really celebrating they’re anti-Americanism and rejection of our patriotic ideals?

“When it was Rhodesia, Zimbabwe was the breadbasket of Africa with a stable currency. As Zimbabwe it is a famine stricken hell hole with a worthless currency. Nothing to brag about.”

Did you just do that? Blame Mugabe’s inane policies on being…black? Not that he quickly became a ruthless tyrant, and later a deranged one? It’s because he’s a black guy? What exactly are you trying to say…?

I have mixed feeling of the stars and bars. I feel like it should be taken down from SC’s state capital (We don’t want to think of the South US as a bunch of people who want to hang every foreigner here), BUT, I feel the CSA monument and flag should be displayed BESIDE THE HISTORY OF BLACK PEOPLE IN SC! Maybe, it should should tell the world that all human races or EQUAL, but we are different in specific ways. I have never seen Bo and Luke Duke drive in the General Lee (I liked the stars and bars on the roof of that Kool aid orange Dodge), but these guys NEVER LYNCHED ANY BLACK PEOPLE! These “wild eyed southern boys” were good!

Any racists (Black, white, red, yellow, and polka-dot) should be rounded up, put in a UNPADDED CELL, and let these A**holes kill each other! That’s fine with me and the world would be a better place!

So, in other words, you think it was ok to violently exploit people because of their skin color because things were better for white people. And, I think you haven’t got a clue about what “Black History Month” covers:http://www.theroot.com/articles/history/2013/03/black_slave_owners_did_they_exist.html
