What exactly is he agreeing with? Last week, Paul made some pretty specific statements that I thought were spot on (about the 20 years of Republicans war hawks policies being failures and our shipments of weapons being likely to fall into ISIS hands).

He also said that we should get out of the Middle East, which I think is well worth debating. (Of course the Republican controlled Congress has no stomach for a debate like that.)

But then he immediately walked his statements back, saying it wasn’t well stated or a poor choice of words. Or something.

So what is Paul’s position? Does he even have one?

(We know that the other Republican candidates don’t even have a position, with the exceptions of warhawk Graham)Oh, and Bush, of course, who has three positions. Or six. Or something. Mistakes were made, you know.

None of them are courageous enough to simply expound on what they believe is right for the country. They are all tied up in knots trying to look like something they are not. When a little of the truth slips out they have to do damage control and walk it back. It seems the candidates and the voters have both forgot what this is all about. We need term limits and a couple of month long election cycle without big money. Then their only chance would be to talk about the real issues and propose smart solutions.

It has been determined that, if you propose an idea, no matter how valuable, there will be some flaw that can be exploited by opportunists. No plan is perfect.

And so it goes: if you have an idea, people can tear it down. So the best policy is to not have any ideas. This is why we don’t (and won’t, as long as the electorate continues to accept this behavior) have any proposals for tax reform, immigration reform, banking reform……

Or, as Ted pointed out above, say one thing, and on pushback, walk it back. Then, when asked about it, say “I think I’ve made myself perfectly clear about that already.”You’re covered either way.

Yes, Rand Paul often says amazingly true things; and then says wingnut things with the same conviction. So if you hear your position coming out of his mouth, are you vindicated or condemned?
