It’s been a year, and I miss my tiny kitties, Mama Taffy has been a wonderful addition to our cat family, but we really miss poor Chester. We see his father around from time to time, Roy thinks he is Chester and is living outside now, he tries to get out to say hello quite often we have to keep a squirt gun by the door.
@QueenofAmericaSo glad to hear you are feeling much better after a rest. I need to get back to my knitting and crocheting, as Paul’s first grandchild is due at the end of July and I need to put a nice edging on the blanket I knitted, and then I need to get back to the afghan I am making for my great-granddaughter.
I’m with you Chesney. Hard to hold back the tears listening to songs like that. Very touching and precious pictures today. I do my share of knitting and crocheting. Sewing – not so much. I usually spend more time taking stitches out. Cross stitch is my favorite. How about you guys here – knitting or crocheting?
Since I was eight years old I have knitted, crocheted, and knew how to sew. I didn’t have a store bought dress until I was a junior in high school. I can still do all three, but cross stitch mostly with a little needlepoint on the side. Need to pull out my sewing machine and catch up on some mending. So glad I know how to do those things.
Hallo Gweedo, Marge is here! Thank you for asking. I was in my garden with my daughter and my two cats today, we four were relaxing and enjoying the warm sun! And now we will have supper. Here in Bavaria today it is a Catholic holiday called Fronleichnam (Corpus Christi).Although my daughter and I are Lutherian, it is a free-working day for all Bavarians. I hope your day is as fine as mine.Hope this day is a happy and worry-free day for all Ten Cats Lovers!
When I was five years old I heard a song also called “Oh mein Papa”, it’s from the movie “Feuerwerk” (Firework). Please enjoy, here it is: https://youtu.be/3Hf-iLEIgbg
My mother did a lot of knitting. She tried to teach me, but I never got the “hang” of it. She made beautiful sweaters for my sons when they were little, she was so talented she cute knit dogs, cats, ponies, etc. into the patterns. She also made afghans, baby blankets, sweaters, etc. I have one of the sweaters she made me that in particular is VERY beautiful. A turtleneck with a ski pattern. And as old as it is, it doesn’t look a bit “dated”.
I can sew, crochet and needlepoint. However, due to arthritis in my hands, I mostly sew these days. My neighbor, Rex, sews and often comes to borrow my machine. He mends his hunting clothes, and I am converting a pair of his overalls to a overall-kilt. I can’t wait to see him in it. His mom taught him to sew in the 60’s, (he’s 66). I hate it that young men and women no longer are taught to sew and cook in school (home economics). They all still need to learn that and girls need to be able to change a tire and change their oil.I am frying cabbage for dinner, and took the outer leaves and core out to the donkeys. They asked me to say hi to you, Gweedo. They like to have company.
You are so funny! Unfortunately for you, the needles are the same – you just have to do the stitches a little different. There’s a U-tube video. Go for it. Make yourself a winter hat and scarf.
I had to teach myself to crochet left handed to teach a leftie. I’m right handed myself. Vanna White is a rightie but crochets left hand since that was how she learned it. Maybe you just need a good teacher to get you started on either knit or crochet?
These days my sewing is making kitty pads for people who adopt the cats. We give one to everyone who does. We also sell them to raise funds for medical care.

There was a jazz trumpeter named Bix Beiderbecke, could you be thinking of him?

That song brought tears to my eyes, my father used to sing “Oh My Papa” to me. He’s been dead 46 years, and I still miss him.

I never could learn to knit or crochet. My reasoning was that I kept getting “bad yarn”.
Off to play with my new sewing machine.

@ LadyKat@ QueenofAmericaCrocheted afghans???Is it what I translate – afghans are dogs, greyhounds for me – or is it only a synonym for a needlework?

I learned to sew when I was in 5th grade – both machine and hand sewing. But mainly I crochet. Afghans, head bands, even a bag for my bowling ball.

I’m left handed too. That must be why I have never excelled at any needle craft, no left handed needles:)
