Gracie: The toilet's leaking. Balod: No need to call a plumber! Baldo: All we have to do is turn off the water down here... Baldo: And then turn it on when you need to flush. Baldo: All fixed! Gracie: Your repair skills are extremely grotty. Baldo: Thanks!

Even Calvin once tried to fix his parents’ drippy faucet until water gushed everywhere.

That’s probably the safest fix a teenage boy can do on his own. I wouldn’t want my kids to do more till I had a chance to look at it, that’s for sure.

So am I the only one who has no clue what ‘grotty’ means. I can guess, given the context, and I will look it up but this is the first time I can recall Baldo teaching a slang term.

Okay, even having looked up the meaning of the term I just cannot see it fitting here. Maybe it is taking on new connotations – words do that, you know.

Not having looked at any previous comments, “Grotty” is short for “grotesque,” as defined by John Lennon in ‘A Hard Day’s Night’

If she just means it’s running free, then Baldo’s solution may work. But if it’s leaking onto the floor, then it’s cracked, and that’s a much more serious problem.
