college is great if you are going to be a doctor or lawyer, or something that requires specific knowledge, but face it…a good trade school or an apprenticeship (sp) can be as rewarding as most other things.
That even a “minimum skills” requirement for many jobs, is at least a two-year degree or equivalent trade school education above high school, those without same are the ones unemployed, or at sub-minimum wage jobs.
Two years of tuition free education makes economic sense based on returns over time as income, and taxes paid, increases.
Allowing “financial institutions” to rip students off, does not make sense.
Illinois state revenue is up 22% from 2009 to 2014, but over 200,000 fewer people are employed. The state is second in the nation in increased tax revenue in five years-(N. Dakota is #1 due to the oil boom)but the recession is still going on here. How did this happen? Big tax increases. And the state is still massively in debt, so…the Democrat state legislature wants another round of big tax increases.

both my parents went to tuition free college, but the economy didn’t pick up until WWII.
