Ultra conservatives (with justification) complain about Muslim MIddle Eastern countries that are truly theocracies of that religion. Again, certainly with justification.
However, then the branch of these same right wing ultra conservatives that are the Christian Fundamentalists seem to wish at the same time to maneuver the USA into the same kind of government!
Not seeming to realize that the truly excellent principle of the separation church and state was not only that of our Founding Fathers, but also a great principle of Jesus Christ himself when he was here in the flesh. And The Lord of Life Himself was not just dealing with a representative Democracy, he was dealing with the most authoritative autocracy of all time in the Roman Empire!!
So, just perhaps these Christian Fundamentalists should reconsider getting directly involved in politics, would you think?
Wouldn’t it be great if the Christian Fundamentalists actually practiced Christianity instead of parsing the Bible to find verses that suit their personal agendas and ignoring the parts that don’t?
@ ChevJames007 said " Atheism is asmuch a religion as Roman Catholicism."Care to justify that statement? As an atheist extremely familiar with Catholicism, I’d just love to know how you intend to prove it.
I don’t happen to be a theist, but I don’t think of myself as an “atheist”, because that’s a negative characterization. I would prefer to characterize myself by positives, by what I think is true and valuable. I think that treating other people well is valuable. I think that building a good society that will foster individual talent and effort is valuable. I think that knowing more about the world we live in is valuable. I think that the arts are valuable. Does that constitute religion? There’s no belief in anything supernatural, no dogma, no ritual. And as for atheism, it’s not that I DON’T BELIEVE IN GOD, it’s that no one has ever offered me a concept of god that made sense to me. As soon as the god people come up with a coherent and intelligible concept of divinity, then I’ll look at it. So far I haven’t seen it.
These days, Republican Conservatism is pretty difficult to distinguish from a Religion..History does not record anywhere at any time a religion that has any rational basis. Religion is a crutch for people not strong enough to stand up to the unknown without help. But, like dandruff, most people do have a religion and spend time and money on it and seem to derive considerable pleasure from fiddling with it. Robert A. Heinlein.
For the record, atheism is a faith just like “off” is a television channel.”
I’m impressd on 2 counts: 1) It’s funny and I hadn’t heard this version before. 2) You attributed the source where you heard it from. 3 years later! If that doesn’t mark the tell of a true scientist….;-)

A lot of fundamentalists would better be called “fundament-ists,” in honor of the place they get their facts from.

In any case, this cartoon is irrelevant; all these clowns would have come in one car. Plenty of room for more in there, too.

Martens: Just finished “Sapiens”, a worthwhile read. Some of the biology I took a little exception with, but overall, valid.
