Hunters are real good at leaving gates open. Military excercises are a threat but the Republicans demand law to allowe National Guard, Border Patrol, and any other federal agency to go anywhere they want, with their vehicles, ‘cause we gotta’ stop all them Mexicans that will spead disease for ISIL (remember that one?), and we need the “Minutemen” to protect us??
^I’m VERY familiar , for decades with those hunters and ATVs (but only since they first arrived in ’73) and other OHV riders disregard for landowners, be it public or private.
I’ve also had problems with National Guard folks on a couple of occassions who thought they “owned” all the land, but not anything like those “recreationists”.
The military, on the gound and in the air, DOES get what it wants though, and you can thank Congress for that, and their allegiance to the MIC,
You’re also aware that Texas hasn’t got any of the public domain federal land the “western” states do, fed land their was purchased.
Hmm, power and oil companies I’ve had experience are also difficcult to deal with. Back a long time ago, the oil companies didn’t have quite as much power, and were better to work with, not much the case anymore.
Maybe you should ask markjoseph what his point is. He’s the one that started this thread of discussion. I was replying directly to his post. Or did you miss that?
And the right-wing nut body count in this country is pretty high, so there’d have to be some real analysis on whether or not that’s larger than what’s going on in Chicago.
And are you actually, truly concerned about the tragedy that is the murder rate in Chicago? Or is it simply a convenient fact with which to bludgeon a race and a community? What sort of solutions would you propose? What might you yourself do to help the situation?
I think people are waking up to the results of repeated liberal failures!
Which repeated liberal failures are those? The ones trying to limit access to guns but being undermined by a single gun shop in Georgia? Oh, maybe you mean mean the banking practices that have continued to discriminate against people in these cities, particularly people of color, helping to gut and their economies. Or maybe you mean how industries left these cities wholesale for other countries, partly spurred by Reagan administration corporate tax breaks? Please, do tell us what you mean by liberal failures. And what changes you’d propose. In specifics. Rather than, you know, just go off on a content-free Fox-worthy rant.
Back to the original editorial comic: Texans by a large majority love the military – around 10% of US military personnel come from Texas anyway. We just don’t trust the civilian overseers currently directing their activity. They’re the ones who really belong in the same foxhole as ISIS.
You might want to reread what I said, which is that IS terrorists have killed, on US soil, at last count, oh, about zero people. In fact, there’s been a total of one tentatively IS-affiliated attack in the US, which resulted in the killing of the would-be assassins and only the injuring of one other person. So my statement stands. Non-IS right-wing nuts in this country have killed, over the last two years, a lot more folks in the US than those who are with IS.
I’d say that denying someone’s humanity crosses the line. Leave that to the racists, misogynists, and homophobes.
And sue, your denial that Hiram believes in core US values also crosses the line. It’s the sort of language that has created huge gulfs in our national conversation, and smacks of McCarthyism.
martens may not have been around to see that post, which was taken down at least six hours before I’m posting this. So why just automatically jump on her without knowing all the facts?
