Good eye, Elizabeth, for catching your father about to take your picture with the lens cap still on. No need to get grumpy about it, John.

I have yet to buy a digital camera, so I don’t know, but is there such a thing as a lens cap anymore?

Now you get digital cameras that take pictures of their shutter.

A relatively new problem is one my poor, long-suffering hubby has done, more than once with his DSLR. He goes to take the picture and gets the message, no card installed in camera. He has several cards, but sometimes just forgets to put another one in when he’s removing pics from the current SD card. He’s missed a few good pics over it, but it’s just one of the hazards of this digital age…and yep he’s forgotten to take off the lens cap, too, but he can see that once he looks for his subject and sees black. LOL

My grandson only had to wear a silly paper cap for his kindergarten “graduation,” not the whole robe. No platform either, thankfully. Far too silly.

I like that Lizzie’s school anticipated the parents’ need for a picture, and set things up accordingly.Further proof this is only a comic strip, and not reality.

You can’t see anything with the lens cap on. You should spot the problem instantly.

My digital camera won’t even turn on with the lens cap on. But I do wonder how many pictures he didn’t get because of that lens cap being on.

Lizzy must have graduated with honors. She’s already smarter than Dad.

Even OLD cameras came in SLR. I had a Nikon built in the 50’s that was SLR. If I had the lens cap on, I would know immediately when looking in the viewfinder.

There’s a famous story about Marilyn Monroe being part of a USO tour in Korea. She saw a soldier about to take her picture, and similar lens cap issue. She walked over, leaned down and removed it, saying “Honey, you forgot to take it off…” :)

Sportymonk — not true — there are clear lens caps. I know, becasue my mother-in-law had one, took pictures of the great castles and cathedrals of Germany — and they all looked like they were melting…

    Lynn’s Notes:

Kate’s kindergarten teacher was Miss Dorothy Lyon. Here was an opportunity to give a nod to a favourite person.

On every camera I’ve ever had, if there was something blocking the lens, you’d see it in the viewfinder. I don’t know how there could be a problem with lens caps or anything else.

My old Minolta had a view finder seperate from the lens, but the lens cover went over both the lens and the view finder so you knew it was still there.
