To use an old line I have used before: During the days of the Women Movement there was joke that “If there really was a 3rd sex then men would be out of a job, and die off, but there isn’t so women have to make the best of a bad situation.”
If there was a 3rd party both the Elephant and the donkey would die off, but there isn’t so we have to make the best of a bad situation, which for most of us means going with the Democrats, because, unless you’re very rich, you are better off with the DEMS.
Take time to look what the GOP did in the 20 some years they were in power, and you will see that the Middle Class became poorer, the poor became even poorer, and small business all but died out.
Also during those 20 years government became bigger, the national debt became larger, and they did everything they could to kill Medicare, and cut back on Social Security.

I think this is one of Morin’s better ideas. Both parties, whether national or local, are more into political chicanery and bribes (politely known as campaign contributions) than actually helping The People. I’d love to see a viable third party.
DAVE - The GOP didn’t do anything about the things you just complained about when they were in power, so what makes you think they will do anything if they get back into power.
Under Reagan, Bush, and Bush the size and cost of government went up, the National Debt went up, and, by the way, so did your taxes – right now most of us are paying the same taxes we paid under Bush-2, and less then we were paying under Reagan.

There was a Rubber Stamp Republican government and a Republican president. Why didn’t they get it done then? They had an overwhelming majority. But none of that stuff was priority. Reducing government isn’t a priority of the right, either. Why else would we have Big Brother Arizona and Big Brother Oklahoma laws springing up from Right wing politicians. More government.
