Back to the cartoon: Steve Benen pointed out the difficulty of finding any voice opposing the current Iran deal who didn’t also fully support invading Iraq. These are not smart people, folks, and they are incapable of learning. They hate Obama more than they love their country, and it clouds their vision.
Regardless of the situation, your response is petty and wrong. It smells like blaming the victim. Do you also blame rape victims for wearing the wrong clothing? Back to Israel: was Israel doing something particularly heinous when seven nations attacked them immediately after they became a nation? Were they a rogue nation whose people deserved to be “driven into the sea”?
Sometimes people (and nations) have enemies because of their behavior. Sometimes they have enemies because the enemies are in the wrong. In this case, I think it’s both.
In “Going to Jericho”, by John Franklin Swift, European Jews were sending poorer Jews to Jerusalem where they were the most imporverished folks there, so that those early Zionists could establish a Jewish presence and “right” to Jerusalem, and Palestine. Swift writes of how badly those Jews were treated by the folks who sent them there. This reportage is from a trip to Jerusalem, IN 1868!!!!
The “settlement issue” isn’t at all new, and Netanyahu’s views on expansion and settlements is far more dangerous to peace than Iran getting a commercial nuclear program, or even a singular “nuke”- that they aren’t in the least crazy enough to drop on Israel.
