I don’t get it. The economy in terms of jobs and deficits is doing better than it did under either Bush or even Reagan. And Lisa draws a cartoon implying that Obama has done a bad job on it. Does Lisa just take as a given that all economists (like all climatologists) are liars? I guess Colbert was right, “Reality has a well-established liberal bias…”
Don’t forget there was a Bush between Reagan and Clinton. And as I recall, the economy was pretty good with Clinton. In fact it was pretty good until Bush II slashed taxes and started two wars.
Sometimes I think the objective is to have an economy that is not doing too well. The reason being it produces a higher rate of unemployment, particularly among the poor, the more poorly educated, and the less qualified, which makes recruitment into a voluntary military easier. A significant portion of American society requires a strong military to extend the American footprint abroad and to control resources. A military that requires a draft to sustain numbers would have a much tougher time implementing a military backed foreign policy. If the objective was truly a stronger economy, you would see a higher tax on the rich and/or tax reform, with the revenue going to infrastructure building, education, research and development, etc., – anything that strengthens the productive capacity and employment at home. Then you would have lower unemployment at home and more difficulty sustaining a voluntary military. This would not be favored by the MIC and those who think a huge military is required “to meet American interests.”
Our economy is dependent upon the rest of the world. We have a lot of competition out there.Much of it has lower labor rates. Technology and innovation has sustained us in recent years. Today private and government investment in R&D is very low. Our infrastructure is starting to fall apart and again there is little investment in it. Our primary and secondary schools rank well down the list of developed countries. Ditto with our medical system. Our tax system is a mess and competitors are gaming it to win business while congress continues to say no to everything except stupid investigations of the opposition and trying to start a war in the Middle East. We are not doing too badly at the moment but are clearly headed in the wrong direction.
One reason Reagan’s economy wasn’t worse is that he went back on a pledge and raised taxes, after which things improved somewhat.
Obama’s done a remarkable job, considering what was left to him. Much of what conservatives claim he added to the deficit was simply honest accounting of what W had hid under the rug in order to pretend his war of choice wasn’t bleeding us dry. GOP always leaves it to a Democrat to fix their foulups, and when the economy recovers, they step in, take credit, and start the handouts to the rich.
It looks like she’s complaining that Obama is not following Federal law; however, the comments from the rwnjs are that the economy was a disaster under Clinton and Obama, and has been totally wrecked since Reagan restored it from the Carter debacle, while the left tries to point out the economic facts. .I like the way the right ‘knows’ that Bush, jr left the economy booming, but Obama took over in ‘08 (we know that’s the year he was elected, and aren’t elections in July and then the new president takes over and so the crash was all Obama’s fault, wasn’t it, and don’t try to lie and talk about Jan ’09).
“. Reagan brought the economy out of hyper inflation caused by the previous Democrat (Carter) and built an economy that it took 8 years of Clinton to destroy” is a wonderful fairy tale. I wondered what Republicans told their children at bedtime.
“…hyper inflation caused by the previous Democrat (Carter)…”-Tell you what, you detail just how Carter caused said inflation, and i’ll consider believing it.

What you say is total bovine excrement.
Reagan did no such thing. Hyperinflation began . under Nixon with the OPEC oil embargoes and grew under Ford. It was then inherited by Carter.
The inflation was only halted when OPEC countries found they were hurting themselves more than they were hurting the United States.
You are the one who needs to get a grip and a fact or two might do you some good also.
