When Iranian mullahs sound like the reasonable ones in the room, you know something is really wrong. Heck, if I were the Iranians I would have come to an agreement just to piss off Cotton alone.
They just believe in using gunboat diplomacy to dictate to the rest of the world and they are willing to spend money and blood to get their way. Kind of the Clint Eastwood “make my day” mentality.
There are degrees of warmongering. While I agree Obama is no dove – much to my great disappointment – he is not the same as any Republican. If we had a Republican administration, we would already be in full blown war. In our system, it is common for the president to want to do one thing and find himself (no women presidents yet) doing the exact opposite. It’s not good, but it’s what we have. Obama acts much more hawkish than I suspect he wants to because the alternative (from a political viewpoint) is worse.
I’ll take a sincere move toward preventing war over a false presentation of “evidence” to start a war any day. WMD’s anyone? Thousands of Iraqi civilians and U.S. troops dead because of a lie … shaking my head that this STILL hasn’t shaken the hawks into some grip on reality. On this Easter weekend, let’s ponder what the Prince of Peace would say about all this, shall we?
Actually it appears that they have at least read it in context with what the framers intended. Few of our Ultra-Conservatives have even looked at what was intended. They simply pass on what someone has told them it “should have meant”
Too bad you are not young enough to have your neck put on the line in the war that the conservatives are so willing to let the young men (and women now) fight for them and the Big business enterprises. Most of the “money holders” in our country have never gone to war and have no idea what it is to face an enemy who will kill them whenever they have the chance.
One FOX bloviating slammed the deal because it did not include releasing Amis Hekmatic, the former marine and dual Iranian American citizen being held by the Iranians for alleged spying. Ie. "You can’t leave Americans on the battlefield, “Obama hates the military,” etc., etc. Sometimes you can only shake your head at the stupidity of an alleged news organization.
@Michael C. CordellThank you for your thoughtful commentary! Unfortunately, some posters think that the use of military force is always the best answer….
How freaked out will the right be went they finally realize that a nuclear Iran would still be among the LEAST of our worries on a true global scale of “problem areas” and true threats?
Obama taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago. If you don’t understand the Constitution the way he does, that makes it pretty obvious which one of you is wrong.
