Good parenting! Some less playful would say “I’ll teach You to look grumpy! Smile or else I’ll give you something to look grumpy about”. Hope nobody here had a parent like that, but suspect it’s all too common.

However, we could always talk our daddy out of a spanking. The 4 of us had him wrapped around our little fingers. My mom was the hammer! Though we were never abused. We grew up right, honest, hard working and loyal. We didn’t give our parents any crap, and they didn’t take any from us. It’s like people are afraid of their kids these days. Want to be their buddies or something.
