3 years back the division in the UK I worked for was all set to take over our French counterparts, as we had done with the Italian, Spanish and German divisions. Then our division manager suddenly left and things fell apart. Pretty much had 2 years of useless leadership; then, about 8 months back, we were taken over by the French division. Within a month morale was higher, productivity was higher, project deadlines were being met and more importantly, family life for many returned. The new French director, along with the technical manager (from Monaco actually) knew about work/family balance and worked hard to ensure his peoples’ expectations were met and productivity shot up in response. No-one was made redundant. So far I’m very impressed with the French leadership.
why hire full time workers that are impossible to fire, when you can hire temps, that serve at your will. that is a big problem in the euro zone right now.

funny things happen when you make it impossible to fire incompetents.
