    First in first out, but he will have his moment in the sun. Those political super nationalists who searched long and hard for Obama’s foreign birth certificate, which would be the first step in declaring him ineligible to be president, should have it much easier with Cruz. He really was foreign born.

    Article II Section 1 Clause 5: No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

    While no actual description of what constitutes a “Naturalized citizen” exists, the following is generally accepted as the standard by which our own law is measured.

    Amendment XIV Section 1: All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.

    The main authority for the original meaning of “natural born” is William Blackstone, in his Commentaries on the Laws of England, Volume II, edited by St. George Tucker, a Founder, published in 1803, especially Chapter 10:

    As to the qualifications of members to sit at this board: any natural born subject of England is capable of being a member of the privy council; taking the proper oaths for security of the government, and the test for security of the church. But, in order to prevent any persons under foreign attachments from insinuating themselves into this important trust, as happened in the reign of king William in many instances, it is enacted by the act of settlement,l that no person born out of the dominions of the crown of England, unless born of English parents, even though naturalized by parliament, shall be capable of being of the privy council.

    If this same standard is applied to Mr. Cruz, since one of his parents was an American citizen, he is a naturalized American citizen and eligible to run for office.

    It would be a shame if moderates and liberals were to treat Mr. Cruz the way conservatives continue to treat Mr. Obama’s claim to citizenship. There are many reasons why Mr. Cruz is not the most appropriate candidate, using the “birther” card is distracting and will just make his supporters more rigid.Respectfully,C.

    @Jeff H“His mother was a natural born US citizen. So, no birther idiots need apply.”Obama’s mother was also a US citizen. That didn’t stop the birther idiots, did it? The real reason Cruz doesn’t have to worry about the birthers is they are Teapublicans, just like Ted.

    Ted Cruz: “Imagine a flat tax.” OK. A flat tax would give a massive tax cut to the wealthy and a massive tax increase to those living in poverty. Every Republican’s wet dream.

    Policies? Well, rememeber that after Cruz gets elected, them business strangling regulations will be no more, and the process will begin where ATT will buy out Verizon and all the lesser communications companies.

    The internet, as well as other communications will be owned by a single company. TV and radio will be next.

    There will be no need for extraneous govt. agencies like the FCC, FTC, and the like. (Not to mention the IRS).

    And the southern border will have a Great Wall that looks just like the Berlin Wall.

    “Remember: the whole “birther” thing against Obama was started by…wait for it…Hillary Clinton.”She may have started it, but the Teapublicans gladly took that banner and kept it flying for as long as they could. Hillary wasn’t demanding Obama’s long form birth certificate after he made public the short form, nor was she demanding to see his college transcripts after he pulled strings to make public the long form. That was the Teapublicans.

    Mr. Varney, Mr. Cruz’s wife is taking a leave of absence from her job at Goldman Sachs in order to be part of his campaign. She will be losing her 20k a year health coverage during this time. I believe its less hypocrisy and more public relations. However, his behavior before and after the sequestration fiasco last year might seem hypocritical to some.You have my empathy.Sincerely,C.

    Cruz is an IED, Idiot Extremist Dimwit, with an ego bigger than his home state. Oh, wait a minute, he was not just born in Canada, but actually held DUAL CITIZENSHIP, until recently. Being born abroad, WITH foreign citizenship, even if dual, means he wasn’t “natural born” in the U.S.. Yes, his mother’s citizenship does apply for other purposes, but not running for President. It’s also interesting how Cheney had to rush back north and give up his Texas homestead rights to meet the law for running as Bush’s Vice President.
