My wife and I met at the first Star Trek convention in Seattle. It was a huge influence in our lives and philosophy and Nimoys portrayal of the conflcted, logical, intelligent Spock had an immeasurable impact on the world. I know it was a TV show but ask any one who adored Mr. Rogers or Captain Kangaroo or many other TV personalities about their influence in their lives and you’ll understand.Goodbye, Leonard, Spock and all the others you gave life too with your talent, genius and dedication.
I remember watching the first episode years ago and was blown away. An intelligent sci-fi! I loved Spock and all the rest of the cast. He did live long and prospered.
Mr. Nimoy was a truly excellent individual in pretty much all aspects of his public life. Even at the beginning of Star Trek, when he learned that he and George Takei were earning more than Nichelle Nichols was, he went to the producers and successfully advocated for pay equity for her. Besides playing the inspirational character of Spock, which was so important to so many of us, he was also simply a gracious human being who strove to live out his principles. And who knows? Maybe he’s been shot out to the Genesis Planet. One can only hope.
It’s truly a wonderful thing when a person is so well loved that almost everyone has nothing to say but good things about their life. To paraphrase what Will Rogers once said:‘Try to live your life so that you can be unafraid when they sell the family parrot to the twon gossip.’…
