Last place I worked, I was sitting in a cube right by an entrance door when my boss came and told me I was being moved to an office — for what I thought was a very peculiar reason. I worked with a mixed group of contractor personnel and subcontractor personnel in the contractor’s office building. Some queer provision in the contract charged the government more for office space with doors than for open office space (i.e., cubes), especially if subcontractor personnel occupied those offices; therefore, the offices had to be occupied by contractor personnel and all the subs had to be in cubes. Made life difficult when some of the team leaders, who needed space on which they could close a door, were subs. Dumbest contract provision I’ve ever encountered, or at least one of the dumbest.
