The Senate does not have the votes to override that veto.For me, this so far looks like bad theatre, and pretty much the same decision-making that got us that last Federal shutdown. Which was not good for the country, and did not help the Republicans all that much, either.
This is now the 3rd largest Fed dept behind Defense & VA.But that is in line with Obama’s 2008 campaign statement of wanting a federal domestic police force the same size as the military.I would love a link to the original of that last statement.
Many call for a “Return to the Constitution.”I’d just like to see a double handful of statesmen step up to the proverbial plate and return our country to reasonable discourse.
I still think of the Dept of Homeland Security as another unnecessary boondoggle; an agency set up by George Bush as a place to give loyal, low-level supporters & cronies cushy, high-paying jobs. What were the CIA and FBI for? How about our under-funded border-patrol guards, the Coast Guard and the Air National Guards? Instead of creating an over-bloated patronage agency, why couldn’t Bush have beefed uf the budgets and personnel of existing groups?
