Val: Do you have any preferences about our wedding, Phil?
Phil: Not really.
Phil: If YOU'RE happy, I'M happy. Just tell me what to wear and where to stand.
Joan: You are going to be a GREAT husband.
Phil: Wally told me to say that.
I had hoped my husband-to-be would say something like that. But no, he insisted on being involved in almost every detail of planning the wedding. We’ve been married for 30+ years, but we still “battle for control” on lots of issues. I’ve had to learn that I can’t have everything the way (or when) I want it. Not an easy lesson, but spending time in a wheelchair will make it a mandatory lesson, unless you hate harmony.
I bought a new day dress and we got married in the back yard of my fiance’s house with 4 family members as witnesses. Best wedding ever! and we’ve been married 31 years.
The hubby & I (being in our 30/40s) pretty much ran the show. Admittedly, neither of us had any children with ideas that should be at least considered. I did a lot of legwork (it was my town); he paid for more than I did (better job). But I can’t think of too many things besides my dress that he didn’t have a say on. We agreed on the venue, the colors, I ran the songs past him for the ceremony, he helped make the centerpieces (plus took my ideas and made them work) and table assignments, designed the program & invites… He’s a great guy! We had some input and help from our respective parents, but that’s all.
For us future hubby and I planed the wedding the photographer chose our date, my mom paid for my wedding dress $50 then told my sister she paid too much she wanted cheaper. I made my own bouquet. Our dinner was very cheep. My mom grew up being cheap as so my dad. My dad wanted us to elope he buy washer/dryer. We had our wedding. In April be 34 years.

Interesting. It appears that Phil is leaving for work and it is morning. Has he already moved in?

Seems it’s later, Yesterdays he had a beer. Maybe he’s going home now after a nice dinner and chat about the wedding..

My father told me to “Show up, shut up, and say I do”

And that way he doesn’t have to actually DO anything.

That’s another great thing about being a man. During wedding planning, all you have to do is get measured for your tux.

I was working and paid for my own wedding. I made more $$ than Mom.

I tried this approach in my current marriage and it didn’t work out.

As to the issue of where Phil lives, it’s a comic strip. If you read past strips, Phil is often drawn wearing his uniform.

Yes, Dear! He will make a great Ken doll, er… husband!
