Funny…. Stephan Pastis wrote an entry in his blog that I bookmarked long ago to send to a friend who has like…I dunno…maybe 18 decorative pillows, at least three “bed dolls” and usually a couple of live cats, all of which need to be removed every night before she and her husband can put their heads on the “real” pillows. And replaced every morning.

(I only have the ones I sleep on.)

Seems to be Janis’ thing too… and after laundry day she’s apparently replacing all the pillowcases.Aaagh….

    OK, found it…From Stephan’s blog:

It will open in it’s own page, so you won’t lose your place if you Click here to read it.

As a woman, i cannot understand why some women have to have so many pillows just for show, they crop up everywhere, on the bed, the couches in the livingroom, so that you have to remove them before being able to sit down….exasperating. I have better things to do with my time than rearranging pillows for show. Besides, it’s better not to make your bed directly in the morning, so that it can air during the day. That way all the moisture your body has shed during the night can vaporize and also mites will be considerably lessened, making a healthier environment to sleep in.

Whoa…. just watched that clip…and in Pastis’ blog piece he has almost the same complaint, about minutes a day adding up to days of his life wasted on decorative pillows.

I’d sure like to think it’s a coincidence, and he’s never seen that movie!

Probably is, and I wouldn’t be surprised to find that others have thought of it too.

My question is, what do women need with the pillow between the legs for? Anybody?

Also, the pillow between the legs can help if you have sciatica – That’s what I use it for. However, other than that one pillow, I have the normal amount of pillows for sleeping (one for me, one for my husband) on our bed.

The other thing is, some men (me) are frustrated by putting pillow cases on pillows. There’s no efficient way to do it.

As a male, I identify with Arlo’s lack of understanding of the female species.

I will die with the secret of how to fold fitted sheets. DH wads them up in a ball. He used to fling pillows into a corner of the room so no fancy pillows for years.

My hubby makes the bed. He washes the sheets, too. In fact he cooks and washes dishes. Helps me clean house. He’s retired, and after all those years of me doing it he said he’d take his turn. In fact my parents now split everything (housework) half I half.

I don’t do decorative pillows on my bed. I have two (and only two) functional pillows.I do have three “decorative” pillows on my couch, but they also have function (if I take a nap on the couch, I use them instead of regular pillows and put them under my head).I don’t understand why anyone would have more pillows than they need.@ Gokie5That link is hilarious! I was raised to believe that soap is soap… though my mother also taught us that decorative towels are for guests to use (not family). Personally, I have abandoned buying bar soaps and have a soft soap dispenser in my own bathroom. I never liked dealing with the slivers of old bars.

ROTFL, this is the story of our household’s life… There’s a great scene between DeNiro and Crystal in Analyze this, when DeNiro realizes his divorce liberates him from the pillows on the bed. I’m not leaving’ my Janis over a p few pillows, however…

A cat should be the only decoration on a bed….

I do keep four pillows on my bed — two for me and two in case Jennifer Aniston drops by.

We’ve got 11 pillows on our bed: 2 regular, 2 shams, 6 throws, and 1 roll (not to mention 1 teddy bear that I’ve had for well over 26 years now; it was one of the first gifts my husband ever gave me back when we first started dating). As for my husband . . . he doesn’t seem to care how many pillows I keep on the bed. I’m the one who puts them on every morning and takes them off every night so as long as he doesn’t have to touch them, he doesn’t seem to care one way or the other.

Thoroughly enjoyed the closing pillow expositions. When we go on vacation, my husband needs two pillows – one to put his head on, the other to hug; I need four, because I have reflux and ideally my back will be at a 45° angle (two pillows crosswise, one on top of the other, two vertical, side-by-side on top of them. So we lug in four pillows, to supplement the motel’s usual two. Thankfully, we’ve learned to ask for first-floor rooms. (I know no one will see all this but me, but I enjoyed writing it and it’s plenty good enough reason to have it here, gosh darn it!

Chiropractor here. You’re all correct. Knees are narrower than hips. When lying on your side, with the lower leg more or less perpendicular to the pelvis, the upper leg has to lie on the lower leg or on the bed, making the angle with the hip more than otherwise. This puts a strain on the lateral hip muscles, which pulls on the sacroiliac, which pulls on the lower back. Since women’s hips tend to be wider than men’s this can be more of a problem (although the normal hip/thigh angle is normally greater in women, so it’s not much more strain then men’s than you might think). Knee pillows reduce the angle, reducing the strain. I often recommend knee pillows. The Contour pillow works great, as it stays twixt the knees much better than a regular pillow, even when turning over.

    Thar ye be!
